He specializes in drawing and painting, with an emphasis on Italian Renaissance and French Impressionism. He also teaches the popular "Ukulele for Teachers" LAUSD salary point classes. But this class is all about learning the basics of drawing, for beginners. You will draw a lot. No tedious lectures or edu-babble. It's about DOING. You do NOT need a bunch of fancy art materials. We'll use everyday things like printer paper, #2 pencils and regular ball-point pens. If you're an experienced artist and would like to use fancy materials, bring them and have fun. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Draw. A lot. We'll use various materials, various techniques and various styles. You'll also talk and laugh, tell stories, share, and enjoy the time together. WHAT BARTT WILL TEACH: * How to draw people, things and ideas! For beginners, we'll start at the very beginning. For experienced artists, we'll start from wherever you are. * How to start a drawing * How to understand lighting * Line quality * Value (darks/lights) * Composition (how things fit onto the page) * How to choose art-making materials, and understand their characteristics * How to make something look like it's supposed to look * How to express your own personality, rather than making everything look like a photographic interpretation We'll draw realistically, expressively, loosely, silly, seriously, and more. Bartt will show you work by fascinating artists. We'll draw from still-life, photos, memory, imagination, and we'll draw each other! BRING: A fat stack of printer paper, a handful of pens and pencils, and anything else. For more info, e-mail WE START ON MONDAY, July 18, at 6:00 sharp! I will send you a link to join us on Zoom.
